Help! I need a new job!

If you are like many of my career coaching clients in Atlanta, you are feeling stuck in a job that – at best – no longer excites you. And at worst, the job feels like it is sucking your soul dry of any last drop of enjoyment you might have had around your career. Most of my clients have worked long and hard in school and at work. They want to feel a sense of enjoyment and purpose in their professional lives, but right now it feels like the same toxic stress each day.

I know what I don’t want, but I have no idea what I do want!

Most people at a career crossroads know the type of place they definitely don't want, but they're having a hard time figuring out what they do want. For people who have spent years in a toxic environment that leaves them feeling depleted and down on themselves, they don't have a sense of what could be the right line of work for them. They may find that they’re good at doing things that they don’t enjoy doing, or that there are things they want to learn how to do, but no one is supporting their professional development.

Many of my clients feel confused about picking a direction. They don't have a strong sense of the types of work that excite them, the types of people that nurture them, or the types of environments that would make them excited to come to work each day. Basically,  my clients come to me because they want to gain clarity about who they are, what they want to do, and what they need to thrive. Many coaching clients are having a hard time sorting out the advice of others from their own inner wisdom. Enter CliftonStrengths…

What exactly is CliftonStrengths?

The CliftonStrengths assessment is a tool developed by Gallup (yep, same people that do the election polling!) to help people learn how to use their unique gifts and talents productively. This tool helps people gain self-awareness around how they use their strengths well, or how they might overuse them to the point that they wear themselves out. The CliftonStrengths assessment also helps people develop language to talk about the people, places, and projects that give energy, and those that drain it. My clients are able to work through the fog of overwhelm once they gain clarity around who they are, what they love, and what they need to thrive. As a result, they’re able to make decisions based on who they are at their core, and not based on what someone else tells them they should like.

What do I get when working with a career coach in Atlanta?

When you work with me as an Atlanta-based career coach, you will gain crystal clarity around your unique strengths and values. Essentially, you will know who you are and take pride in what you offer to the world. You will start to see yourself through a more positive lens, and you’ll learn how to talk to yourself more kindly. You will also gain clarity around your values, and you'll learn how you can use your values and strengths together to make an informed decision about what happens next for you professionally.

Many of my clients are based in Atlanta, and you can meet with me online or in person as you progress through the Compass Within career transition coaching program. Compass Within also has an optional monthly meetup on Zoom where you can connect with other people going through a similar professional transition.

How can you help me reach my career goals?

In short, I have been there too. I know what it feels like to be stuck and not have a sense of what it is I want to do next. I also know what it's like to recognize that I need to leave a workplace that is no longer healthy for me. I know what it's like to worry about other people's anticipated judgment, and I know what it's like to wrestle with my own self-judgment. Having spent a lot of time sitting in my own discomfort, I have learned how to help people move through their own fear and discomfort and into a more productive space.

Nicole McCoy,

Global Development Practitioner

“Through Compass Within I was able to explore my inner strengths, some of which I didn't realize I had. I especially appreciated gaining vocabulary to describe what I am capable and interested in doing and learning to decipher it from what I feel expected to do. So many times we are unaware of what help we need in moving to the next steps in our careers but Ariela's wise words helped me home in on what matters most to me and how to represent myself in order to get it.”
